Kenya: 17 children killed in primary school dormitory fire

Nairobi: 17 children died in a fire at a primary boarding school dormitory in Kenya.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the fire occurred last night at a private boarding school, Hillside Endarasha Academy, in the Central Highlands, 150 kilometers from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. 800 students were living there.

According to the report, so far 17 students living in the school hostel have been confirmed dead in the incident while 14 students are injured.

The administration has not yet released any details about the identity or age of the dead and injured, but the school said all the students were between the ages of 5 and 12.

According to Kenya's Ministry of Education, the fire broke out in the school's boys' dormitory, which housed more than 150 students.

Kenyan President William Ruto has ordered an investigation into the incident, saying he prays for the speedy recovery of those injured.
